Defence Ministry to deposit gold plates in Sanda Hiru Seya


The Defence Ministry has made arrangements to deposit 16,290 gold plates inscribed with the Tripitaka in the Sanda Hiru Seya in Anuradhapura. These gold plates and other objects weighing three and a half tons were conveyed to Anuradhapura in a special motorcade beginning from the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy yesterday. This was disclosed at a press conference at the Sri Lanka Army Signals Brigade Headquarters in Kandy presided by Commander Central Command Major General Mano Perera.

                  The enshrining of relics in the Sandahiru seya being constructed in Anuradhapura will take place on Sunday under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapakse. In line with this function  and international Buddhist seminar will be held at the whole day of next Saturday at the Sri Lanka Bhikku university in Anuradhapura.   This seminar has been organized by the defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse obliging to a request made by the senior lecturer of the Sri Jayawardenapura University Venerable Dr. Medagoda Abeytissa Thero.  Buddhist researchers from India, Pakistan, South Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, China and Vietnam will also attend this seminar.  The seminar is sponsored by the vice chancellor of the Sri Lanka Bhikku University  Venerable Professor Thumbulle Sri Seelakanta Thero.  The infrastructure facilities for the seminar will be provided by the ministry of defence and urban development.
